  1. The film, named up front

We tell you which film goes on your car and why we picked it, before it comes out of the box. You get the UV and heat reduction the film is rated for.

  2. A shade inside the law

New York sets a 70% limit on the windshield and front side windows. We install to the legal limit for your vehicle and show you where the limit sits.

  3. A quote before the work

You get the plan and the price first. Nothing starts without your yes, and nothing gets added without asking you.

  4. Edges checked twice

Edges and seams get a second look before anyone calls the job finished.

  5. Care notes at pickup

We walk you round the car, show you what was done, and tell you how to look after the new film.

  6. We stand behind our work

If something is not right, bring it back and we will make it right.

Tint and the Law

How Tint Darkness Works

Tint is rated by visible light transmission, or VLT. The number is the share of outside light the glass lets through, so a lower number means darker glass. A 70% film is light. A 5% film is close to black.

In New York the windshield and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through. On cars labeled Passenger Car, the rear side windows follow the same rule. The rear window is allowed to be darker if the car has outside mirrors on both sides.

Tint is checked at the annual state inspection, and the law covers shops too: selling or installing glass outside the limits is illegal. We install to the legal limit for your vehicle.

FAQ

Window Tint Questions

How dark is legal in New York?

At least 70% of light has to pass through the windshield and the front side windows. On vehicles labeled Passenger Car on the federal ID label in the driver’s door, the same 70% applies to the rear side windows. The rear window is allowed to be darker when the car has outside mirrors on both sides.

The full breakdown is on our NY window tint law page.

Is tint checked at the state inspection?

Yes. Since January 1, 2017, New York State inspections include a check of tinted windows. We install to the legal limit for your vehicle.

What if I need darker tint for a medical reason?

The DMV handles medical exemptions on form MV-80W. The application needs a physician’s statement, and an approved exemption comes with a sticker for the window it covers. Tell us about the exemption when you ask for your quote.

Which film do you use?

It depends on what you want from the tint: privacy, less heat, a cleaner look, or all three. We tell you which film we recommend for your car, and why, before it comes out of the box. You get the UV and heat reduction the film is rated for.

What does window tint cost?

It depends on the vehicle and the work you want. You get the plan and the price in your quote before anything starts, and the quote costs nothing.

What is ceramic window tint, and do you install it?

Ceramic tint is window film made with ceramic particles. People choose it mainly for heat rejection, and because it has no metal in it, it does not interfere with phone or GPS signals.

Yes, we install ceramic window tint at our Massapequa shop. Ask which ceramic film fits your car: we name the film before it goes on.

Can you tint the windshield?

New York allows tint on the top six inches of the windshield. Below that, the windshield has to let at least 70% of light through. The details are on our NY window tint law page.

Where is the shop, and which towns do you serve?

We are at 21B Brooklyn Ave, Massapequa, NY 11758. Nearby towns each have a page with the distance and the route: Massapequa Park, Seaford, Wantagh, Amityville, Bethpage, Farmingdale and Levittown.

About window tint: New York law limits how dark it is allowed to be. At least 70% of visible light must pass through the windshield and front side windows, and through the rear glass on most passenger cars. Tint is checked at the annual state inspection, so we install to the legal limit. Medical exemptions come from the DMV on form MV-80W.
